Itaewon ‘Selected Works’ 2019 Exhibition
After a year of painting since my last show, I decided to exhibit a new body of work consisting of architectural references from photos I had taken in London alongside a collaborative piece I created with Bertie Sampson. My process changed in 2019, I dropped the rigidity that I had been struggling with in 2018 and began to explore more expressive painting techniques as well as bringing elements of reality to my previously imaginary landscapes.
‘Selected Works 2019’ had no real title because I found myself suspended, battling the urge to paint landscapes driven by escapism and finally feeling that I am ready for something new. I have never painted from real life, and although these pieces still echo my past, I attempted to bring my audience into my everyday world, interpreting familiar scenes from East London where I work and live.
This show was entirely self-funded and took place on Bethnal Green Road, London.
‘Broken Perspective’ 2018
‘Broken Perspective’ is an accumulation of works from the beginning to end of 2018. ‘Broken Perspective’ comments on the value of process and correspondence. Each painting is in direct dialogue with the last, diving deeper into the realms of abstraction. Rather than relying on impulsive mark making to evoke movement, I focused on critical placement of line and colour. Using mathematics I suggest perfection and correlation to your unconscious, breaking the generic understanding of perspective.
‘Broken Perspective’ took place in December 2018, at BSMT Gallery in Dalston, London. It was my first solo show.
